Download the Best Practice from our 3rd Session
The focus of this session was to uncover the differences and similarities between the roles and responsibilities of:
PORTFOLIO vs. PROGRAM vs. PROJECT - Leaders & Managers
In theory, there is a lot of generic literature on what these roles are supposed to mean and be responsible for, across several industries. In practice though, there is much confusion on where one role ends and the other begins, or where they cross over or fit together – particularly in biopharma companies. However, there is a general consensus that all three are highly interrelated yet specialized structures that allow organizations to segment certain types of work in the pursuit of a shared business outcome.
Given the growing demand for project-oriented roles across industries and worldwide, it makes sense for us to develop a common understanding of how these roles differ from each other in biopharma. And what skills, experience, and expertise do one need to cross over from one of these roles to another.
The peer discussion in this session helped the group in arriving at a consensus of what makes these roles unique and different from one another.
Michael Snitkovsky, Head of CMC PMO at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals facilitated this session.
